Cycle Woolwich to Balmain

Mapwoolwichtobalmain.jpg

This is a cycle through some of Sydney's beautiful suburbs, a ride of approximately 14 kilometres.

Start by catching a ferry to  Woolwich Wharf, ride up the hill and turn left into The Point Road which becomes Woolwich Road.  Pass the Woolwich Hotel, and continue along the tree-lined road  to Hunter's Hill. Beautiful homes line each side of the road and at the lawn tennis club, members still wear whites.

Woolwich Road becomes Ferry Street  which intersects with Alexander Road. Travel along Alexander Road  to Durham Street and turn left. At the end of the street, a track leads to a pathway  over Tarban Creek Bridge.  Cross the bridge and ride down to Huntley's Point Road and stop under the bridge. To the right, steps and a small tunnel  lead to the shared pathway over Gladesville Bridge. The view to the city is spectacular.

At the end of the pathway over Gladesville Bridge, turn left into Cambridge Road, right into Drummoyne Avenue, and right again into Wrights Road. Take a left at Wolseley Street, and a right at St Georges Crescent, travelling  through Drummoyne to Birkenhead Point. Turn into Roseby Street, but ride carefully as there is a lot of traffic. When you reach Victoria Road turn left and ride onto the pathway on the eastern side of Iron Cove Bridge.

Exit the bridge and turn left into Terry Street. The streets are marked as shared through Balmain and Birchgrove. Continue along Terry Street, which becomes Glassop Street. Turn left into Birchgrove Road, then right at Cove Street. Go left into Grove Street and stop at the Gladstone Store, which has great food and coffee.

Ride up Bay Street, and continue to Cameron Street then turn left. At the intersection of Clayton Street, go left and zig-zag right at Trouton, left at Campbell, right at Wells, right at Waterview, and a short left into Queens Place, and left again into Darling Street. Ride down to the Balmain East Ferry Wharf.
