St Peters to Central Station
Start at St Peters Station, but take the time to look at the wonderful street art on May Lane, south of the station.
The walk will meander through the lovely inner city suburb of Erskineville. Cross over King Street, north of the station into Concord Street, which becomes Flora Street. Next is right at MacDonald Street and a left into George Street. When you reach the corner with the Rose of Australia pub, cross the road and veer into Swanson Street. Then, make a left into Burren Street and walk past Macdonaldtown Train Station. Immediately take Leamington Lane to the right and later, turn left into Holdsworth St and finally right at Wilson Street.
Along this street is Carriageworks, which was the old Eveleigh Railway Workshops that operated from 1890 to 1988. It has been renovated as a venue for theatre, music, farmers markets and many creative events.
A right into Little Eveleigh Street leads to Lawson Street. On the corner opposite the train station is a wonderful cafe, The Pride of Redfern.
Go past the station, and left into Gibbons and Cleveland Streets. A right at Cleveland Street takes you to Prince Alfred Park. This is a large park where people exercise, play football or throw frisbees. Tennis and basketball courts are available, as well as playgrounds for children. Continue along Chalmers Street until you reach Central Station.
It's a walk of about 4.2 kilometres.
