VENICE
From the moment you travel down the Grand Canal you are instantly enchanted by this beautiful city. There are countless things to see: condolas gliding along the canals, the Rialto Bridge and Market , St Marks Square and Basilica, the Doge's Palace and many fine museums. Take a ferry ride to the serene Burano Island with its kaleidoscope of coloured houses or to Murano Island and watch a glass-blowing demonstration.
Take a vaporetto to Salute in the Dorsodouro area and wander around this wonderfully serene neighbourhood. Academia and the Guggenheim Museums are located here. In the Castello area are the Arsenale Naval dockyards with the naval Museum nearby. The Venice Biennale is also staged here every year.
Travel across the lagoon to the island of Lido on the Adriatic Sea. Its sandy beaches are very popular with Venetians during the summer months.
